The Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer are both built on the same FoMoCo CD6 architecture. However, the Aviator is significantly more expensive, starting at $58,495, while the Explorer begins at $39,625. The Aviator Black Label is even pricier, coming in at a whopping $87k!
Both SUVs are equipped with a 3.0-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 400 horsepower. While the Aviator maintains a sleek and elegant design across its trims, Ford decided to give the Explorer Active, ST, and Platinum models a unique front fascia treatment, similar to the refreshed 2024 F-150.
The differences between the trims of the Explorer are mostly seen in the grille and subtle apron details. Some enthusiasts may have preferred a more distinctive appearance for the powerful Explorer ST. However, digital car content creator Nikita Chuicko, also known as kelsonik on social media, has taken matters into his own hands.
Chuicko has given the Explorer ST a sportier makeover, featuring larger aftermarket wheels and a two-tone appearance with a black roof. He has also imagined a Ford Performance version of the Explorer, complete with slightly different headlights and the iconic ‘FORD’ grille styling.
What do you think? Should Ford have collaborated with Ford Performance for a sportier design, or is the current Explorer ST sufficient? Could this new Ford Performance Explorer hint at a desire for more power under the hood, perhaps a 3.5-liter EcoBoost from the F-150 Raptor with 450 horsepower? Only time will tell.
