Lorenzo Somaschini, a young 9-year-old rider, tragically passed away on Monday following an accident during a free practice session of the Honda Junior Cup, which was part of the SuperBike Brasil round at Interlagos.
According to the event organizers, the Argentine child had been hospitalized in São Paulo since the accident occurred last Friday, June 14th. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, June 17th.
The accident took place at the exit of Pinheirinho. Somaschini received immediate assistance at the scene and was then taken to the circuit’s medical center where he was stabilized. Subsequently, he was transferred to the General Hospital of Pedreira and later to the Albert Einstein Hospital.
While the organization has not released detailed information about the accident, his manager and instructor, Diego Pierluigi, provided some insight to LA100 radio before the tragic news: ‘Lolo was on his second lap when he crashed at the slowest turn of the circuit. It was a combination of many factors. He suffered a highside, where the bike twists, brakes, and ejects the rider. The fall was very slow, but he hit his head in a position that left him fighting for his life‘.
MotorcycleSports extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Lorenzo Somaschini during this difficult time.
