Forward has clearly been the least competitive constructor in Moto2 this year. However, Jorge Navarro caused a general surprise this Friday by leading the first practice of the Catalan GP with a new lap record at the Barcelona circuit.
For much of the session, the leader was also the surprising Daniel Muñoz (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP/Kalex), who was in front for about 24 minutes before being surpassed by Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex).
The American even improved his time, but near the end, Navarro (Klint Forward) surprised everyone by completing a lap in 1m42.807s. It’s a new Moto2 record in Barcelona, putting him 0.208s ahead of Roberts.
Muñoz finished third, followed by Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), who had led the morning free practice. Fermín Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) completed the top five. Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), the championship leader, was eighth.
