Marc Márquez made another improbable comeback in the Sprint race of the MotoGP Catalan GP. The Gresini rider started from 14th and finished in second, only behind Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
This was unexpected for the eight-time world champion, as he admitted to the official broadcast: ‘It’s unbelievable. I didn’t expect – in Le Mans the pace was there, but today the pace was not there. But it looks like that I broke the aerodynamics in turn 2 and then the bike worked better [laughts]. No, it’s a joke, it’s a joke!’.
In the Sprint race, besides the different track conditions, Márquez had a strong pace in the final phase as he explained: ‘The track was very different, it was so slippery, and the pace was there. I was quite patient in the first laps, and then in the last laps I was able to be faster, faster, faster. My rear tyre was in a very good shape’.
Finally, the Spaniard acknowledged the crashes that occurred and congratulated Espargaró on his victory: ‘Of course many riders crashed, but the situation out there was super critical. Congratulations to Aleix, that today – and maybe tomorrow – will be his day because it’s his last race in Circuit de Catalunya’.
