Marc Márquez’s impressive recoveries are becoming less of a surprise. This Sunday, he started from 14th in the main race of the MotoGP Catalan GP and finished third, after doing something similar in yesterday’s Sprint race and in both races at the French GP two weeks ago.
The Gresini rider admitted that it is not something he is proud of, with the starting position also affecting his strategy: ‘I’m not proud about it, especially because if you make that comebacks, it means it’s coming from some mistake’.
Márquez then said: ‘Apart of that, starting from 14th forced me, or I feel that forced me to put the soft rear tyre. I don’t know if it was better or worse, but in the end I had that extra grip on the first laps to overtake the riders. The end was difficult, but even like this I catched the Aprilia guys [Aleix Espargaró and Raúl Fernández] who were there with the medium and I had something more’.
For the eight-time world champion, this podium is satisfying after the difficulties faced in Barcelona: ‘I’m happy to be on third position in a circuit where historically I was always struggling a lot during all the weekend. But this extra job together with the team gave us that podium that is amazing’.
