In recent MotoGP Grands Prix, Sprint races have not been favorable for Francesco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider once again failed to score in the Catalan GP Sprint, crashing out while comfortably leading on the last lap.
Asked in a press conference if he would like to remove the Sprint races from the program, the Italian denied it and admitted that it is up to him to make improvements:
– The Sprints are there and I have just to improve myself, because we are always competitive. In the last three Sprint races we were competitive, but we had to crashes and one problem with the bike. I’m losing a lot of points: on Saturday I would win the race and I crashed in the last lap. For sure is something that I have to improve, my team is giving the maximum.
Bagnaia assured that he feels good during the Sprint races, unlike in 2023, but he needs to finish them and score points which can be crucial: ‘Normally I struggle more, but this year I’m feeling well in every Sprint race. So it’s a matter of finishing it and take points. Because it’s true that I was struggling a bit last year, but I finished every Sprint race I did. It’s less points, but for the championship it helps a lot, because every weekend to put five, six, 12, nine points, is a lot. It’s good that in every Sundays we are competitive, but I’m tired of losing points for free on Saturday’.
