Last Monday, right after the MotoGP test day at Mugello ended, Aprilia announced the signing of Jorge Martín for the upcoming seasons, starting in 2025.
A few days ago, it was expected that the current Prima Pramac Racing rider would climb the Ducati hierarchy and join the factory team next year. However, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer preferred Marc Márquez.
Knowing he wouldn’t have a spot, Martín quickly decided on his future. Between Sunday and Monday, negotiations with Aprilia were finalized, making that team his destination to achieve his goal of becoming a factory rider.
Marco Melandri admitted to Corse di Moto that he was surprised by the move and the timing of the announcement: ‘I would say the news was almost unexpected because Martín to Aprilia… the change happened quite quickly, and making it official right away was a bit surprising for everyone’.
