It turns out that this year the World Superbike Championship will not make its debut at Balaton Park in Hungary. The event has been canceled, and instead, the Autódromo do Estoril will host a second round in Portugal, taking place from October 11 to 13.
Balaton Park was the big new addition for 2024, set to see WSBK race in Hungary for the first time. However, ongoing construction work at the circuit will not be completed in time for the scheduled dates (August 23 to 25). As a result, the cancellation was inevitable.
Without Hungary, the option to fill the gap in the calendar was Estoril, which thus returns to the schedule and will serve as a second round in Portugal after Portimão. Scheduled for October 11 to 13, it is the penultimate round of the season, a week before Jerez – meaning the champions could potentially be crowned on Portuguese soil.
The last time Estoril hosted the WSBK was in 2022, witnessing victories from Álvaro Bautista and Jonathan Rea, with thrilling battles until the end, in which Toprak Razgatlioglu was also involved. Besides the WSBK, Estoril will also be the stage for the Supersport World Championship, Supersport 300 World Championship, and Women’s World Championship (WorldWCR).
