Jorge Martín was announced by Aprilia for the 2025 MotoGP season on Monday – even before it was officially known that Marc Márquez had been chosen by Ducati.
Massimo Rivola, the executive director of the Noale manufacturer, said that the process leading to Martín’s signing unfolded quickly, between Sunday evening and Monday.
However, Carlos Checa has a different opinion. The former rider told DAZN: ‘I believe they were already negotiating and that the negotiations were quite advanced while waiting for Ducati’s decision’.
Aleix Espargaró announced his retirement less than two weeks before Aprilia confirmed Martín. As is well known, the two Spaniards have a very close relationship, which may have contributed to the negotiations.
In any case, what is certain is that the current championship leader will start a new chapter of his career in 2025, aiming for titles with Aprilia – one of the manufacturers that has made the most progress in recent years.
