Two key moves in the rider market were confirmed this week, with Jorge Martín announced by Aprilia and Marc Márquez by Ducati for 2025. However, about a week ago, all signs pointed to Martín being chosen by the Borgo Panigale manufacturer.
Márquez, however, refused to go to Pramac, and thus Ducati faced a tough decision: either let go of a media sensation like the eight-time world champion or forgo a talent with more future years ahead. The choice was Márquez.
On DAZN, Álex Crivillé considers that the decision wasn’t as clear-cut as it might seem, also noting that Márquez played his cards right to secure the winning bike he wanted:
– I think it wasn’t clear at all that Marc would go to the factory team. We all pointed towards Jorge Martín. I think Marc knew how to play his cards very well. He put aside all the economic and sponsorship aspects and said, «I’m going to look for the best team and a winning bike; I want to fight for the championship, there are no more excuses». And he will have it.
