Marc Márquez has quickly positioned himself in the fight for podiums with Gresini. Still getting acquainted with the Ducati Desmosedici GP after a decade riding only Honda machinery, Márquez is once again impressing – even when he has little left to prove after six titles in the premier class.
Andrea Dovizioso is particularly surprised by Márquez’s rapid adaptation. In statements to Relevo, the Italian admitted that perhaps other riders might not have been able to do the same:
– I think fans don’t realize how well he is doing. Making such a significant change in bikes, where both braking and cornering are infinitely different compared to Honda… being able to do this in two tests and quickly be at the top in the first races, honestly, I don’t know if other riders could have done it. I think people undervalue this. Yes, Ducati is competitive, so it’s normal for him to be in the top positions, but what Marc has done is sensational.
In Dovizioso’s view, Márquez still has room to improve: ‘I don’t see him at 100% yet. When he achieves that, he will have a complete feeling with the bike to give his best whenever he wants. He has the talent and winning mentality, and that helps him to be strong, even with less grip. However, when you need to set a fast lap, it’s more complicated. That’s why I say he is doing special things’.
