This Saturday saw the qualifying races for the MXGP of Italy. In Maggiora, Tim Gajser dominated in MXGP, while Liam Everts was the strongest in MX2. The day was marked by challenging conditions, with a lot of mud due to the rain.
In MXGP, the holeshot was taken by Gajser (Team HRC), who led the race from start to finish. The Slovenian rider had Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) on his tail, but he isolated himself at the front and gave no chance to the Dutchman, winning with a 33.900s lead.
Brian Bogers (Fantic) impressed with third place, holding that position at the end of each lap, finishing 39.443s behind the leader. The top five was completed by Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki) and Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha), with five different bikes in the top five positions. Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas), the championship leader, finished sixth.
The MX2 qualifying race had strong emotions in the fight for victory. Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas) took the holeshot and led almost the entire race with Everts (Red Bull KTM) in pursuit.
After managing the race well in difficult conditions, Längenfelder made a mistake on the last lap. It was Everts’ opportunity to take the lead and never let go, beating the German by 8.720s. Ferruccio Zanchi (Team HRC) secured third place ahead of Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM) and Valerio Lata (GasGas). Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna), who leads the World Championship, was only tenth.
