Since Gigi Dall’Igna took on the role of General Manager in 2014, Ducati Corse has experienced significant growth and progress, reaching the top of both MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship.
It was a long journey to the titles, but it didn’t take that long for Ducati to regularly compete for podiums and victories in both championships. Currently, the Japanese manufacturers Honda and Yamaha are far from achieving such results and need to recover.
Dall’Igna told the PecinoGP YouTube channel that the results improved quickly once he started leading the project: ‘It is true that it took us a lot to win the World Championship, but remember that in the first race of 2015 we finished second and third, fighting for the victory. If someone has the right ideas, the right people, and the right organization, in my opinion, they can achieve it quickly. In 2014 Ducati was struggling, and in 2015 we started fighting for wins. In 2016 we won two races and, from there, more each year’.
While acknowledging that the titles took longer to achieve, the Italian engineer argued that the primary goal should be to compete for top positions – and in this regard, he believes Honda and Yamaha could recover quickly: ‘Yes, it took us a lot to win the World Championship, but to be protagonists, it didn’t take long. Only one can win; however, in my opinion, the realistic goal of a manufacturer should be to be a protagonist. Therefore, if they organize themselves correctly, the Japanese manufacturers could return to being competitive in a short time. Ducati demonstrated this in its time’.
