Pedro Acosta confirmed his status as the fastest rider in the Moto2 in Buriram. The championship leader also set the pace in the second practice session of the Thai Grand Prix in the intermediate class.
This practice began with Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) in the lead, ahead of Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) in the early flying laps, with Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) in third.
In the second flying laps, Ramírez wasn’t dethroned but was being chased by Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). This pushed Acosta down to third. The timesheet then stabilized for several minutes as the riders prepared for the Grand Prix.
Only in the final phase did the top positions on the timesheet see changes. With about five minutes remaining, Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) briefly took third place, and Aldeguer got within six-thousandths of a second of the leader. Shortly after moving to third, Canet suffered a low side crash in turn three.
Three minutes before the end, Acosta overtook Ramírez at the top of the timesheet, while Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) also showed his speed.
Until the checkered flag, no one could beat Acosta, who led by 0.014s ahead of Ramírez. Aldeguer finished third, and Chantra posted the fourth-fastest time, with Canet in fifth. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), Acosta’s only rival in the title fight, ended up in ninth.
