Luca Marini finished the Sprint race in 3rd place overall. The Italian driver of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team finally achieved a positive result, worthy of the work he has been doing throughout the season, after some racing incidents in previous races.
The Italian driver spoke about his race and was satisfied with his performance in the Thailand GP Sprint race.
– ‘ It was good, good fights with Brad, fair, I had a good start. I started with little confidence and Jorge Martín immediately gained a lead that I couldn’t recover. When Brad overtook me I tried to overtake him straight away because I knew that if I waited too long the temperature of the front tire would rise a lot and it would be very difficult. His (Brad’s) grip, braking and acceleration are incredible, I tried to keep up with him but it was very difficult, we’ll try again tomorrow to have a good race. Jorge is riding his bike very well, if he manages to gain some distance on us it’s very difficult to keep up with him, we have to improve some aspects and be better’.
Asked about the choice of tires he will use tomorrow in order to maintain a high pace for longer, Luca replied: ‘I don’t know yet, last year we did the race in the wet so I don’t know. I think the problem isn’t the wear on the tires, but the temperature, because after 7 or 8 laps the temperature gets very high and you start to spin a lot more and brake harder, when you want to overtake you need the power to do it, so it’s not easy to manage the temperature of the tires, whether with medium or hard tires.
