Aleix Espargaro was for sure super happy to reach the end of today’s race in Thailand as he, at the end of the race, seemed to be drained out especially mentally, after a race that he considered to be the worst of his life. The Aprilia rider had problems with his brakes, which left him practically in a panic. Besides that, he had no arguments to fight with the riders who finished ahead of him and who, he believes, that all have a better bike than he does.
In an initial analysis of his performance this Sunday in Buriram, A. Espargaro began by mentioning the extreme difficulties: ‘It was a very very difficult race honestly, I couldn’t brake, it was the hardest race of my life. In the last three laps I did even panicked because I tried to breathe and I couldn’t, it was super worrying and when I got to the garage I thought I was going to die, it was a very, very hard race for me, very difficult to stay focused’.
In the #41’s opinion, this race is a summary of what this year has been like for him: ‘For me, today’s race is an example of what my championship has been like: we’re fifth in terms of riders and the four who finished ahead of me are faster than me this year and have better bikes than mine, that’s for sure. Today’s race is the image of our championship’.
The spaniard then clarified: ‘The first part of the race was very good but I didn’t have enough power in some places and some lack of grip. I was too much on the limit to be able to chase them [the leading group]. Overall the race wasn’t bad but in the last eight laps, I’d say, I couldn’t even see the reference points to brake, it was unbelievable and it was the worst race of my career’.
