Philipp Eng achieved the fastest lap time in the second free practice session for the Six Hours of Glen in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Despite the session being interrupted by a red flag, Eng, driving for the BMW Team RLL, finished in first place. The GTP category competitors were incredibly close in lap times, with only one second separating 10 out of the 11 participants. This session provided valuable track time before the six-hour race at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, June 30th. The conditions were hot and humid, with the possibility of rainy weather for qualifying and the race. Many drivers in the field of 56 cars had recently competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Charlie Eastwood had a challenging start, losing control of his car during his warm-up lap. The session also saw several cars penalized for exceeding track limits. There were two red flag interruptions, one caused by an impact at Turn 9 and another by an impact at Turn 1. Despite the interruptions, Eng set the fastest lap time in his BMW GTP, followed by Mathieu Jaminet in a Porsche Penske and Sebastien Bourdais in a Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac. Felipe Fraga led the LMP2 category, Madison Snow led in GTD Pro, and the Vasser Sullivan team’s Lexus RC F #12 was the fastest in the GTD class.
