Maverick Viñales concluded the Friday sessions of the MotoGP German GP by setting a new lap record at Sachsenring. The Aprilia rider clocked his best lap at 1m19.622s, outpacing Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) by 0.340s.
The Noale manufacturer had a strong performance on the opening day of this round, and the Spaniard shared with the official championship site that he felt good in different conditions, focusing on preparing for Sunday’s race:
– It has been a good lap, I pushed for sure on the limit in every single meter of the track. It’s a good Friday, we need to be satisfied. Conditions were tricky, it was difficult to understand how much you could push – especially because of the wind, it was very cold. So during the lap the front tyre temperature drops quite immediatly. However, we managed to have a good feeling through all the conditions and I prepared well the long race. Tomorrow morning we are going to focus for the Sprint race. And then in qualifying, you close your eyes and try to do a perfect lap.
Viñales noted that the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP allows him to adopt a riding style that is crucial at Sachsenring: ‘I said sometimes that the bike this year is a bit different compared to last year. I feel the bike is much more constant in all the circumstances, and that’s really good to build up the confidence and to build up consistency. I turn quite a lot on gas; I don’t know why, I have the feeling to make it slide and keep a good slide to turn into the corners. And in Sachsenring this is the key, so tomorrow I’m going to try to be more perfect on the lap: still on Sector 1 I’m not really good, I’m struggling to stop the bike, so there we have tenths to try to do tomorrow’.
