Francesco Bagnaia finished the Sprint race in 3rd position, after leading at the start of the race, the Italian rider was overtaken by Álex Márquez and his rival Jorge Martín.
In a debrief, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider spoke about today and the Sprint race: ‘ Qualifying was fantastic, I haven’t felt the sensation of doing a fast lap for a long time and I love that feeling as well as qualifying. This Sprint was identical to Mugello because I felt Álex had a good pace, but I did too. From lap 5,6 I started to lose the front because of the pressure, which is strange because I did a lot of laps on these tires in practice yesterday. I don’t think my problems in the race came from the tire pressure, but from the temperature, I don’t know, it was very strange. Halfway through the race I had a lunchbox on my wing, it happened on the lap when I started to struggle, but I don’t think it was because of the lunchbox.
Asked about Álex Márquez’s very competitive pace and his prediction for tomorrow’s race, Pecco replied: “At the moment Álex is faster than both of us (Jorge and Pecco) but we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. Our pace in this race doesn’t show what this weekend has been for us, he’s been very consistent and braking very well, but I think we have a good chance tomorrow. I think I have the same pace as him for tomorrow, if I don’t I’ll be very close for sure’.
On the speculation of Jorge Martín joining the official Ducati team, Francesco Bagnaia revealed his thoughts on the subject.
– “Enea (Bastianini) deserves another chance, because he’s never had the chance to understand this bike, and just as he was getting the hang of it he had another incident and got injured. What Jorge is doing is incredible and despite everything he’s on a factory bike. I think it would make more sense for Enea to stay, even for the stability of our team.
