The new Opel Frontera made its first public appearance on Tuesday in Istanbul, Turkey, thus taking the place of the iconic brand SUV launched in 1991.
The German brand has now announced that the new Frontera will be available with two types of engines: a hybrid version with 48 Volt technology, which features a 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine with 100 hp, specifically developed for hybrid use, combined with a 28 hp electric motor and a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission. Power is exclusively transmitted to the front wheels.
Opel also offers a more powerful version of the Frontera Hybrid equipped with a 136 hp variant of the 1.2-liter engine and an identical 48 Volt hybrid configuration.
In addition to the hybrid versions, the Frontera now offers a new 100% electric variant, of which the brand has not revealed details, but promises a range of over 300 km in the entry-level version and about 400 km in the “long-range” variant.
Aesthetically, it was already known that the new Frontera presents a vertical front silhouette and unique front proportions that combine a functional and spacious cabin volume with a very bold and robust, yet modern and expressive look.
The new “Blitz” emblem from the brand celebrates its debut in a production model and is placed in the center of the Opel Vizor in black, giving the front of the Frontera a unique identity and seamlessly integrating the Eco LED headlights with automatic high beams and the central Opel Blitz. The Vizor is supported by a trapezoidal cooling opening in the lower third and enhances the solid and robust stance of the new SUV. The prominent fenders and sills, as well as the attractive C-pillar, underline its rugged character.
In the interior, the highlight is the Pure Panel, consisting of two 10″ screens, one for the instrument panel and the other for the infotainment system. The Frontera also offers many practical features as standard, including the innovative smartphone station.
Designed for long journeys, the new Opel SUV features seats that include the Intelli-Seats solution with a groove in the middle that relieves pressure on the coccyx. In the trunk, the Frontera in the five-seat configuration can store over 450 liters of luggage, which can increase to 1600 liters with the rear seats folded down. Opel has confirmed that they will also offer a version of the Frontera with three rows of seats and seven seats.
Finally, for those who enjoy outdoor adventures, the Frontera offers optional roof bars that can support a maximum weight of 240 kg, including a tent with a specially designed ladder for Opel’s new SUV. The equipment versions of the Frontera are only two: the entry-level Frontera and the top-of-the-range GS version. However, Opel has made it clear that the entry-level version is well equipped. The GS variant will feature systems such as multimedia infotainment with a 10” color touchscreen and navigation, as well as a rear-view camera. Frontera customers can further customize their vehicle with two optional packs. ” This year we are celebrating 125 years of automotive production at Opel. 125 years in which we have always moved forward, offering customers innovative and practical mobility. The new Opel Frontera makes a particularly strong statement in this regard: highly flexible, spacious, and electrified, our new SUV will attract new customer groups,” emphasized Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel, during the worldwide public presentation of the new Frontera.
