Christian Lundgaard conquered his third podium in the IndyCar series on Saturday, consistently holding one of the top three positions throughout the entire race. Although fuel strategy did not play a significant role, the choice of tires had a big impact on the final standings after 85 laps. While most drivers opted for the softer red-walled Firestone tires, Lundgaard and his RLL team made the bold decision to use the harder prime tires for a second stint. This strategy was only adopted by Lundgaard and two other drivers, but proved to be successful, keeping him close to the front of the pack. Lundgaard expressed his satisfaction with the performance and praised the team’s strategy. He acknowledged that they took a risk with the tire choice, but believed it was the best alternative compared to using worn alternative tires. Lundgaard’s podium allowed him to climb seven positions in the championship standings, currently occupying ninth place. His next challenge will be to carry this momentum to the Indianapolis 500, where his best finish so far was 18th place in 2022.
