George Russell reached a respectable eighth place in the Miami event! The 2024 Miami Grand Prix weekend was not without its challenges for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Russell faced difficulties throughout the weekend, struggling in comparison to his teammate. Despite ups and downs in the first two days, his performance in the Grand Prix on Sunday proved to be particularly tough.
Starting in seventh place, George Russell only managed a disappointing eighth place. In contrast, Lewis Hamilton secured sixth place overall with his W15.
Now that the event has ended, Russell admitted that he was outperformed by his teammate in Miami. The 26-year-old acknowledges that his race pace simply wasn’t up to par with the seven-time world champion’s W15. Russell and his team will be focused on improving this aspect before the seventh round of the 2024 season.
While George Russell acknowledges his teammate’s impressive performance at the Miami Street Circuit, he also believes he faced a lot of bad luck throughout the weekend. He is particularly disappointed with the start of the Miami GP, as he was caught off guard by Red Bull’s late braking into Turn 1.
With Miami behind them, the next event on the calendar is the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. This race will take place at the renowned Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit. Considering the characteristics of the Mercedes W15, it may be a challenging event for both Russell and Hamilton. The W15 hasn’t shown the best straight-line speed this year compared to Ferrari and McLaren.
