Lando Norris, British driver for McLaren, revealed that he decided not to go for the fastest lap in the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami because he believed his team boss, Andrea Stella, was concerned. Norris took advantage of a Safety Car period during the race to take the lead and secure his first F1 victory after 110 attempts. He had been setting an impressive pace on used Medium tires before his pit stop, giving him an advantage over his competitors who had pitted earlier. He wanted to prevent Max Verstappen from closing in and minimize the chances of making a mistake. Norris pushed early on to build a lead, but once he felt comfortable, he was able to relax a bit and control the race. Despite McLaren not securing the fastest lap due to damage suffered by Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri, they still prevented their rivals from gaining the extra point.
