Taylor Barnard, reserve driver for NEOM McLaren, will be participating in the upcoming double-header Berlin E-Prix after Sam Bird’s hand surgery. Bird, who won in São Paulo, suffered a fracture in his left hand during an accident in FP1 before the Monaco E-Prix last Saturday. With only twenty minutes notice before FP2, Barnard stepped in as a substitute, becoming the youngest driver in the FIA Formula E. Despite starting in 22nd position, he finished in 14th place in the race. McLaren expressed satisfaction with Bird’s successful surgery and hopes for a quick recovery so he can return to racing in the near future. McLaren Team Principal Ian James praised Barnard for his exceptional performance in Monaco and expressed confidence in his ability to build on this experience while Bird focuses on his recovery. The team eagerly awaits Bird’s return to the car.
