Augusto Fernández, who finished the last GP in Qatar in the last scoring position, arrives at the last GP of the year as rookie of the year and with good expectations for next season. The Spanish GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 rider will be team-mate of the 2024 Moto2 world champion, in what promises to be a very interesting season for the GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 riders.
In his debrief, the Spanish rider spoke about his expectations for the Valencia GP and revealed that he wanted to end the season well with a positive result.
– ‘I’m excited to be racing here, I like this circuit and I’ve always been fast here. I want to put all the work done this season together here and show all our potential and finish the year well. I need a good result to say the season has been good, I’ve managed to get very close to the pace I wanted to have, but at the moment the result I had in Qatar hasn’t shown our potential. In 2024 it will be easier to start the weekends and get to know the circuits with a MotoGP bike, it won’t be easier with a new teammate of Pedro Acosta’s level, but it will certainly be a great challenge with higher goals than this year.
Asked about the difficulties of having two races during the weekend, Augusto replied: ‘I never felt that in the Sprint I was ready to race, there was still work to do and things to test, but after the Sprint we discovered a lot of new things for the race. Of course, if there were more practice sessions before the Sprint it would be ideal, but I think that next year it will be easier for me to adapt to the new calendar. On Sunday I was performing well and I felt we were improving a lot despite finishing 15th in Qatar, so this weekend I’d like to finish with a result that shows our true potential.’
