The proposal from Cadillac and Andretti Global to join the F1 grid for the 2024 season was rejected by FOM. However, Andretti remains determined to fulfill his dream of competing in F1 and has taken significant steps to achieve this goal. One of these steps includes establishing a new research and development facility for the Andretti F1 team in Silverstone.
The Andretti-Cadillac has started a new team registration process in their attempt to secure a spot on the current F1 grid. The registration was approved by the FIA, but the final decision was in the hands of FOM, which rejected it. Despite these setbacks, Michael Andretti does not waver in his pursuit of his dreams and has now opened a factory in Silverstone, employing 80 staff members.
The 61-year-old driver officially inaugurated the factory in Silverstone on Wednesday.
Despite being banned from entering until 2028, Andretti continues to seek approval from FOM. The establishment of the F1 factory in Silverstone increases the urgency in Andretti’s motorsport efforts, potentially putting FOM in a challenging position.
This may raise questions about why the US-based corporation chose to establish its factory in Europe, specifically in Great Britain. However, Andretti has a convincing explanation for this decision.
Andretti highlights the importance of Europe as a crucial continent for any F1 team. With most F1 teams having their bases in Europe, especially in Great Britain and Italy, it is essential for new teams to establish their factories on the continent to have access to qualified and experienced personnel. This makes Europe an attractive destination for emerging F1 teams.
Despite the establishment of the factory, there is no guarantee that Andretti will finally be granted entry into the F1 competition. The coming months will likely bring new developments in Michael Andretti’s ongoing efforts to reach the top of motorsport.
