Jos Verstappen, former Formula 1 driver, will participate in the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages, the second round of the British Rally Championship Probite, on April 13. Verstappen, father of F1 champion Max Verstappen, will make his debut in both the BRC and the UK. This will be the first time he faces the renowned gravel roads of Wales. He will drive a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 alongside his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul. The duo will also showcase the latest Skoda Rally2 model. Verstappen will be joined by his Wevers Sport teammates, Roger Hodenius and Robin Buysmans, who will also compete in the championship. This will bring an international flavor to the BRC. Verstappen has been steadily progressing in his rally career since his first event in 2022. He secured fourth place in the Belgian Rally Championship that season and even took part in his first FIA World Rally Championship event in Ypres. Last year, Verstappen switched to a Skoda Fabia and claimed three rally victories in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has already added two more wins this season. Despite his experience, Verstappen has never competed in a loose surface event. Therefore, his debut in the Welsh forests will be a new challenge for him. Verstappen expressed his excitement to participate in the British Rally Championship and mentioned that his co-driver, Renaud Jamoul, has previous experience in the Wales Rally GB. Verstappen acknowledged that he only started rallying two years ago and mainly focused on asphalt events. However, after two test sessions in southern France, he and Jamoul decided to tackle their first real gravel rally. They believe Wales is the ideal location for their debut due to Jamoul’s positive memories of the rally. Verstappen mentioned they will receive valuable advice from Tom Cave during their pre-event test at Sweet Lamb. He acknowledged there is no specific performance plan for this rally, as it will be his first time on gravel. However, his goal is to improve and compete closely with the top drivers. Verstappen is looking forward to the competitive field awaiting them at the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages.
