The Moto2 Pirelli era began with the official test day in Valencia this Monday. Alonso López was the fastest on this first day on the track for 2024… and he’s already broken the Circuit Ricardo Tormo’s lap record.
It was in the first of three sessions of the day that the Spanish rider from Beta Tools SpeedUp set the best time: 1m33.061s. Arón Canet, making his debut with Fantic, was just 13 milliseconds behind, followed by yesterday’s race winner, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). He clocked his best time in the second session, 90 milliseconds off the lead.
Many riders improved in the third and final session, including Manuel González and Albert Arenas (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), who completed the top five of the day ahead of Jake Dixon (Gaviota GasGas Aspar/Kalex). Making his Moto2 debut, Moto3 champion Jaume Masiá (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team/Kalex) secured the 12th fastest time, just over half a second from the top.
