Oscar Piastri, from McLaren, led the Friday practice day at the Japanese Grand Prix, with rain limiting the activity in the second practice session. Light rain in Suzuka left the track conditions too wet for slick tires and too dry for intermediate tires for most of the session. Piastri, along with some other drivers, took a risk with intermediate tires, resulting in an unusual RB double at the top of the timesheet. However, as the track dried up towards the end of the session, Piastri set the fastest lap with slick tires, followed by Lewis Hamilton in second place. Charles Leclerc secured third place, while Yuki Tsunoda dropped to fourth. Logan Sargeant did not take part in the session due to significant damage to his car after an accident in FP1.
