Eleventh in the German GP, Fabio Quartararo was once again Yamaha’s main reference at Sachsenring but that, he admitted, is something that doesn’t ‘concern’ him. Even so, the Frenchman said that it requires a greater understanding of the bike’s behavior with new tyres, in addition to the need mainly to improve at the start of the race.
Quartararo explained at the end of Sunday’s race that he even performed better than initially expected, and that he had some problems with the tyres: ‘The final position doesn’t worry me too much. In fact, today’s race was much better than expected. We had a lot of problems at the beginning with the new tyres. I finished the race a similar distance from first place in the Sprint, so I think it was a good result’.
And it is precisely the extra work with the tyres, and a greater understanding of how they work that has to be analyzed: ‘There are things that we still don’t understand very well, but we need to investigate and try to improve, especially with new tyres. In the first laps, we don’t need to save energy, just be in the best possible position. Our initial performance is not good, so we have to improve that’.
As a rider, for his part, he only has the ability to try to give feedback, clearly, while recording happiness with the evolution on the track compared to last year:
– My job is to try to give information. In the past, I also used to think a lot about how the bike is working, but I’m not an engineer. We are working hard and I think we have already made some improvements. I think we improved compared to last year at this track. But yes, we have to improve more; and I think that in the second half of the season we will achieve it.
