Italia is committed to increasing automobile production and, in this regard, is looking for brands willing to install production units in the country.
In this sense, Blomberg reports that the Minister of Industry of the Italian Government confirmed in a hearing in Parliament that the executive of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has already tried to find out about the interest of Tesla, as well as BYD, in installing production units in Italy.
«We have had some contacts on this subject,» revealed Michael Shu, director of BYD Europe, in statements to «Reuters«.
Recall that BYD recently announced that it will install its first production unit in Europe, in Hungary, and has not yet decided whether to build a second factory in the «old continent.»
The Italian government aims to attract new automobile manufacturers to install production units in the country in order to produce at least 1.3 million vehicles per year to preserve its automobile industry due to the challenges posed by the transition to electric mobility.
Stellantis is currently the only conventional automobile manufacturer operating in Italy and produced approximately 750,000 vehicles last year.
