Next season will bring a new development concession system in MotoGP, placing manufacturers into four ranks based on performance, with the possibility of changes mid-season. Rank A, including Ducati, has the strictest testing and development restrictions, while Rank D, currently featuring Honda and Yamaha, has fewer limitations.
Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna’s sporting director, explained to SPEEDWEEK.com why these changes were implemented: ‘We always prefer a consensus that all parties agree on. We would like to thank all involved partners for the sensible development of the system. Probably, the current system was a bit outdated’.
Thankful to the manufacturers for understanding the situation, the Spanish director argued that the concept introduced for 2024 is more suitable for the current MotoGP: ‘It’s a completely revamped concession system where constructors’ performance is assessed at a specific time. I believe it makes much more sense. Perhaps it might be a bit difficult for fans to understand initially, but the outcome of the regulations will be very positive for the championship’.
