FOUR NIGHTS OF NFL ACTION IN BRAZIL TO KICK OFF 2024 SEASON
In an unprecedented move, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Monday night in Las Vegas that the opening of the 2024 season will feature four nights of thrilling football, with the first game taking place in Brazil. The Philadelphia Eagles will have the honor of hosting an opponent yet to be determined on Friday, September 6th at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. This historic event will mark the NFL’s first-ever Friday night game on an opening weekend since 1970.
Located on the east coast of Brazil, Sao Paulo, with its population of over 12 million, will provide an electric atmosphere for the game. Fans can expect an unforgettable experience as they witness the clash of titans in a stadium that can hold up to 49,205 spectators. The kickoff time is still to be announced, but fans in the United States should be aware that Brazil is two hours ahead of Eastern Time.
Commissioner Goodell expressed his excitement about this unique approach, stating, “We think it’s going to be a huge hit. This is giving us an ability to access more fans, not just here in the states, but on a global basis.” The NFL is committed to expanding its reach internationally and has been successfully hosting games in London since 2007. With the addition of games in Frankfurt, Germany, last season, the league is confident in its ability to become a global sport in the near future.
The Corinthians Arena, home to the Corinthians soccer team, has a rich history of hosting major sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
