With the Moto2 World Championship on its summer break, Albert Arenas will race for the first time ever in the Suzuka 8 Hours. The headliner of the Endurance World Championship will take place from July 19 to 21 at the Suzuka circuit.
The QJ Motor Gresini team rider will ride for Yoshimura SERT Motul aboard a Suzuki, one of the teams that could fight for top places. He replaces Gregg Black, who sustained an injury during a recent test session, forming a trio with Dan Linfoot and Cocoro Atsumi.
Yohei Kato, team director, announced Arenas’ participation in a press release: ‘We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Albert Arenas as the substitute for Gregg Black, who was injured during the recent Suzuka test’.
Commenting on Arenas’ qualities, Kato said: ‘Albert Arenas is a fantastic rider, and we are excited to have him on board. He has proven himself in the highly competitive field of Moto2, and once he gets used to the Suzuka circuit, bike, and tyres, there is no doubt about his potential’.
However, Kato acknowledged the challenges Arenas will face as a newcomer: ‘This will be his first experience at Suzuka and in endurance racing, so we understand it won’t be easy. Nevertheless, we are committed to supporting him fully as a team’.
