The lap record was once again broken in the Superpole session of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park, with Adrián Huertas securing pole position for this weekend’s races.
After being the fastest in the free practice, Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) was the first to set a flying lap, but was quickly beaten by Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati). Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) also led briefly, but throughout the session, the top spot alternated between Montella and Huertas.
The Spaniard, who is the championship leader, ultimately prevailed with a time of 1m28.322s, beating the Italian by just 63 thousandths of a second. Manzi finished third, 0.573s behind, followed by Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. Yamaha) and Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) completing the top five. These riders will form the second row of the grid alongside Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing VerdNatura/Ducati).
The Superpole session was slightly shortened due to a red flag. The stoppage was necessary after crashes involving Ondrej Vostatek (PTR Triumph) at Craner Curves and Tom Edwards (D34G Racing WorldSSP Team/Ducati) at Turn 12.
