In a few weeks, the 2024 NFL offseason free agency will kick off, giving players without contracts the opportunity to sign with any team that offers them a deal.
One player who will be hitting the free agent market this year is Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson. It is expected that he will receive interest from multiple teams across the league.
During a recent interview, Johnson shared his thoughts on what the future holds for him when free agency begins in March. He stated, “Heart’s definitely in Chicago, mind’s definitely on the money.”
These comments may not sit well with Bears fans, but Johnson is being upfront about his intentions as he enters free agency. He recognizes that this could be his chance to secure a lucrative, long-term contract in his NFL career.
Since being drafted by the Bears in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Johnson has started in 53 games over the past four seasons. In the 2023 season, he recorded 36 tackles, one for a loss, 10 pass breakups, four interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Chicago would ideally like to keep Johnson on their roster, and they have the financial means to do so with over $46 million in projected cap space this offseason. The question now is how much of a priority retaining Johnson is for the Bears this year.
