NFL Coaching Carousel: Kingsbury’s Surprise Withdrawal Leaves Raiders Scrambling for New Offensive Coordinator
In a stunning turn of events, former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has backed out of joining the Las Vegas Raiders as their offensive coordinator. Just days ago, it seemed like a done deal, but now the Raiders are left scrambling to find a replacement.
Rumors are swirling that Kingsbury may be heading east to join the Washington Commanders as their new OC. While nothing has been confirmed, insiders believe this could be the next move for the former Cardinals coach.
With Kingsbury out of the picture, the Raiders are now considering three candidates for the position. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the top contenders are Luke Getsy, Eric Bieniemy, and Pep Hamilton. It’s worth noting that Hamilton may be interviewing for a different role within the organization.
Getsy, who began his NFL coaching career with the Green Bay Packers in 2014, has been highly regarded for his offensive expertise. After a brief stint with Mississippi State, he returned to the Packers and most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
Bieniemy, a former NFL running back, has made a name for himself as part of the coaching staff under Andy Reid in Kansas City. He played a crucial role in the development of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and helped lead the Chiefs to two Super Bowl victories. In 2023, he made the jump to the Commanders as their OC.
Hamilton brings a wealth of experience to the table, with a long history of coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels. He most recently held positions with the Houston Texans as the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator.
As the Raiders regroup and continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, the football world eagerly awaits the next twist in this ever-changing saga. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
