BYD, the world’s largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles, may sell two new SUV models in the European market to compete with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Land Rover Defender, and Ford Bronco.
According to Automotive News China, the Chinese automaker is considering exporting the Yangwang U8 and Fang Cheng Bao 5 to Europe, and the luxury SUV U8 will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show, which will take place from February 26 to March 3.
The specialized publication reports that BYD executives confirmed their intention to expand into Europe with two more SUV models during a press presentation in Shenzhen.
The U8 is an SUV equipped with a 49 kWh battery and a gasoline engine that functions as a range extender, allowing it to have a range of 1000 km.
The off-road capabilities of this model are enhanced by being equipped with an electric motor per wheel, allowing it to rotate on its own axis like a tank or move sideways to a parking spot.
