A few days before the presentation of the unprecedented Porsche Macan 100% electric, the Stuttgart brand revealed new sketches of the model that debuts the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), developed and manufactured in collaboration with Audi, which admits both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and has an 800 V electric architecture. Michael Mauer, responsible for the design of the Stuttgart brand, now makes it clear that updating the design of the successful SUV was a real challenge.
“The new Macan is the first model that we are electrifying from an existing and established product identity”, says the Vice President Style Porsche. “Each new sports car must be clearly recognizable as part of the Porsche product family and the model in question, but it also has to be seen as ‘the new’ one”, he continues.
The electric motorization offers new levels of flexibility, but imposes challenges: “the removal of the engine block allows us to differentiate the hood in a distinctive way. At the same time, the battery remains a fairly large component that requires a lot of space and can disrupt the width/height ratio that defines it. And, of course, aerodynamics plays an important role in terms of the range of an electric sports car”, emphasized Michael Mauer.
Aerodynamics is one of the highlights of the design of the new Macan, which has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.25, making the new Macan one of the most efficient SUVs on the market.
In addition, the new Macan promises electric systems with motors on both axles, both supported by single-speed automatic transmissions, and combined powers close to 450 kW (611 hp) and maximum torques above 1000 Nm.
In the Macan Electric, the 100 kWh capacity battery will allow a maximum charging power of 270 kW, with Porsche stating that it will not take 22 minutes for the battery charge state to go from 10% to 80%.
The head of Porsche Design has no doubts that the 100% electric Macan “is clearly a Porsche and a Macan. The proportions that define what a sports car in this segment represents for Porsche have been maintained. The design has been enhanced both on the interior and exterior – the new model has an even more sporty and dynamic attitude.”
Remember that the Porsche Macan 100% electric will be presented on January 25th.
