The Public Security Police (PSP) announced that it will reinforce policing and enforcement as part of the operation “Police Always Present: Safe Festivities 2023-2024”, which takes place from December 15 to January 2.
In a statement, the PSP states that the operation, which will take place during the Christmas and New Year period and has the motto “Celebrate with us safely”, is based on four main axes: police visibility, community policing, road safety, and safety in the possession and use of pyrotechnic articles.
The PSP indicates that it will focus on visibility in areas with high concentrations of people, namely historical and commercial areas, public transport terminals, tourist areas, and nightlife areas.
Regarding road safety, the PSP states that it will carry out preventive visibility operations and enforcement actions, and that it will be attentive to the main causes of accidents: speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or psychotropic substances, using the mobile phone while driving, and not using (or incorrectly using) seat belts and child restraint systems.
The security force’s statement adds that in the week leading up to Christmas, enforcement will take place not only in major urban centers but also on access roads to major interurban road axes, accompanying traditional family reunion trips.
