In October, rumors emerged linking Fernando Alonso to Red Bull for the next Formula 1 season, replacing Sergio Pérez. The possibility has already been vehemently dismissed by the driver and the Red Bull team, but it has not disappeared from the agenda.
Hans-Joachim Stuck believes that there may be something behind the speculation, as he stated to Eurosport: ‘The rumors are there. And I think it would be great if Alonso were put in the car. He completely denies it, but maybe there is something to it. We know each other very well. He has the motivation and still enjoys it. He also has the maturity to use his abilities exactly right.’
The former driver also believes that Alonso could be an asset to Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen: ‘The way Alonso drives and competes is impeccable, and that drives a team forward. I think he would be very, very close to Verstappen. I am convinced of that. Closer than Pérez in any case, for me that is not up for discussion. There are only a few people I trust who could drive at Verstappen’s level. Alonso is 100 percent one of them.’
