The proposal for the State Budget for 2024 has not yet been approved by Parliament and continues to generate discussion regarding the well-known Unique Circulation Tax (IUC), after the Socialist Party (PS) revealed that the proposed update of the IUC for vehicles registered before July 2007 provides for distinct tax treatment based on the fuel they use.
In this new table, the PS proposal benefits diesel cars, which as we know are more numerous, by proposing an average reduction of 11.5% in the IUC payment for diesel cars registered before July 2007 in 2024.
On the other hand, gasoline cars and motorcycles will experience an increase based on inflation, as determined by law, namely 2.9%, which is the value foreseen for all other vehicles registered after July 2007.
In addition, the proposal presented by the PS puts an end to the IUC for gasoline cars with an engine displacement of up to 1,000 cm3 registered before 1981, and exempts diesel vehicles with an engine displacement of up to 1,500 cm3 from the same tax. Therefore, these vehicles will start paying a fee of €8.80 from 2024 if the Socialist proposal is approved by Parliament.
