A thrilling conclusion to the FIM Supersport World Championship’s Prosecco DOC UK Round saw Adrian Huertas of Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team claim victory after a controversial final lap.
Yari Montella of Barni Spark Racing Team looked set to secure the win, but a track limits infringement on the final lap resulted in a one-position penalty, handing the victory to Huertas. This completed a perfect weekend for the Spaniard, who also won Race 1.
The race was halted early due to a multi-rider incident, resulting in a 12-lap restart. Montella led from the start, with Huertas, Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing Verdnatura), and Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) closely behind.
Drama unfolded on the final lap as Huertas mounted a determined challenge on Montella. Although unable to overtake cleanly, Montella’s subsequent track limits transgression elevated Huertas to the top spot.
Navarro secured the final podium position, while Manzi and Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph) finished fourth and fifth respectively. Niki Tuuli (EAB Racing Team) and Glenn van Straalen (Pata Prometeon Ten Kate Racing) claimed sixth and seventh, benefiting from Valentin Debise’s late error. Oli Bayliss (D34G Racing WorldSSP Team) and Lucas Mahias completed the top ten.
The race was marred by several crashes, with Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Gabriele Giannini (Team ProDina Kawasaki), Kaito Toba, and Khairul Idham Bin Pawi (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda) all falling at Turn 12.
The championship now shifts focus to the next round, with the outcome of this dramatic race sure to ignite further competition.
