Elfyn Evans arrives at the final round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) season defending second place. The Toyota driver has only a seven-point advantage over Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), so he cannot afford to make any mistakes in order to secure a one-two finish for Toyota in the championship.
The British driver made it clear that his goal for the Rally of Japan is to come out on top: ‘The Rally of Japan will be an important rally for me and the team, and it’s obvious that we want to finish the season on a high. It’s definitely not an easy rally, but we were fighting for victory until very close to the end last year and we would really like to correct that. Hopefully, we can find the same kind of pace this time.’
This is the second “modern” edition of the Rally of Japan, but Evans emphasized that there are still unknowns: ‘Although we know most of the stages from last year, there are still some unknowns because we can’t test on this type of roads in advance. So, the setup is a bit of a guess based on what we had last year and what we have learned since then, but we will do our best to adapt.’
