One of the most special features, already announced by Elon Musk, for the highly anticipated electric pick-up truck Cybertruck from Tesla is its ability to cross bodies of water, being able to float for some time. Also, on more than one occasion, the CEO of the Palo Alto brand has praised the aquatic capabilities of his models, particularly in response to viral videos on the Internet, where Tesla models can be seen advancing effortlessly on completely flooded roads. What Musk didn’t know is that not all Teslas can swim…
The company Biglin Photography released a video that proves that electric cars and water may not go well together. In the footage, a Tesla Model X can be seen catching fire after falling into the water. Not only did the vehicle fail to stay afloat, but it also continued to burn even when submerged.
To make the situation even more dramatic, the driver was unable to open the doors to exit the vehicle, which forced her husband to intervene before the arrival of the Florida fire department, who simply let the Tesla burn until it was safe to remove it from the water.
Since there is no official explanation for what happened, authorities believe that the incident may have been caused by water intrusion into the electrical system, or perhaps by hitting a submerged object. There is also the possibility that the battery had been previously damaged, allowing water to enter.
