Last Friday, Frederik Vesti made his debut in official Formula 1 sessions, driving in the first free practice of the Mexico City GP for Mercedes. It was a significant moment for the driver who competes in Formula 2, aiming to reach the top class in the future.
The Danish driver spoke about a dream come true: ‘It’s a dream come true and I’m very grateful to the team for the opportunity. Since I joined the team’s young driver program, a lot of work has been done to achieve the right results and a lot of preparation in the simulator to prepare for this’.
About the experience in FP1 in Mexico specifically, Vesti believes that there are positive lessons to be learned: ‘It was a good session for us overall, we were able to gather some useful information from the long stints and understand the tire prototypes and degradation on the track. I had never driven there before and it is definitely a difficult track with low grip […]. So, it was a lot of learning for me in this one-hour session […]. I can’t wait for Abu Dhabi and to be back in the car again’.
