Kevin Magnussen suffered a spectacular crash on lap 33 of the Mexican Grand Prix in Formula 1. The impact was so strong that not only the Haas car, but also the barriers, were destroyed – leading to a red flag interruption for repairs.
The cause of the incident was a suspension failure, as the Danish driver explained in statements reported by the PlanetF1.com website: ‘I crashed after a left rear suspension failure. It happened in a bad spot and I hit the wall, so I had an impact on my hands and they got hurt a bit, but they’re fine. We just have to investigate a little more about what exactly happened, as it simply gave way’.
Until the premature outcome, Magnussen considers that he was having a reasonable race: ‘It was going well. I was stuck in traffic for a long time and burned my tires, but I don’t know if what caused the failure had an impact for some time before’.
