Charles Leclerc achieved pole position in the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1, doing so for the second consecutive week after being the strongest in qualifying in the United States as well. This time he beat his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz.
The Monegasque admitted that the difficult third free practice meant that this qualifying outcome was unexpected: ‘I didn’t expect to get pole position. After FP3, it seemed difficult since we were at a disadvantage, but when we put everything together in Q3, it went well’.
With the declared goal of returning to victory, Leclerc is confident in his pace: ‘I am already focused on the race because we want to convert this pole into a win. Our pace has been good so far this weekend, so let’s see what we can do’.
