Sergio Pérez managed to recover in the sprint race of the United States Grand Prix of Formula 1, but far from achieving the intended results. The driver started in seventh place and finished in fifth.
The higher tire degradation than expected was a problem for the Mexican from Red Bull, as he explained: ‘I started faster than I thought and unfortunately that harmed us a bit. We started well and had a good pace, but the tire degradation was a bit higher than I ideally wanted, so we couldn’t attack as we intended and I got caught in a lot of dirty air. We need to solve the degradation issues for the race because it will be important, maybe we are doing things that harm us there’.
In addition to the degradation, Pérez wants to improve the balance and pace of his RB19 for Sunday’s race: ‘We also need to make sure we understand where we can improve the balance of the car for the race and work hard, we need more pace than we showed in the sprint race. We have some tricks we can do and we have some good directions to follow. It will be an interesting race, with many interesting battles’.
