In recent weeks, rumors have emerged about Sergio Pérez preparing to announce his departure from Formula 1 during the Mexico City Grand Prix – his home race. However, he has assured that this is not a possibility on the table, as he still has one year left on his contract with Red Bull.
The Mexican has not been able to keep up with the pace of his teammate Max Verstappen, and despite being second in the championship, he not only lacked the means to fight for the title, but also finds himself threatened by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) behind him. The inconsistent performances have led to speculation about his future and Red Bull’s satisfaction with his work.
However, Pérez is indeed staying at least until the end of his contract and even wants to stay in the field for much longer. Quoted by Sports Illustrated, he stated: ‘Well, at the moment I have a contract for next year. It will be important to have a good season. I am motivated to continue and I want to stay for a few more years. I believe I still have a lot to do in Formula 1. I would like to stay in F1 for at least three or four more years’.
